How to unlike all your likes on X

X will let you delete your whole account, but it has no way to remove all your likes and keep the account. You can only unlike one post at a time. Other people can no longer see your likes, but X still keeps the full list against your account, and it is in your data archive.

By hand

1. Open your profile on x.com and choose the Likes tab.
2. Press the filled heart on each post to unlike it.
3. Scroll and repeat.

This works for a few hundred likes if you are patient. Two things make it harder than it sounds. X only serves your most recent likes, so the tab eventually stops loading older ones. And X slows down accounts that unlike too quickly, so going fast can get you temporarily restricted.

In bulk with Xpurge

Xpurge is a browser extension that works in the x.com tab you are already signed in to. It presses the same unlike button you would, at a steady pace, and nothing about your likes leaves your computer.

1. Add Xpurge to Chrome, open x.com and sign in as usual.
2. Open the Xpurge dashboard. Under Choose what to remove, select likes and nothing else.
3. Optionally, add words to keep or remove. Keyword filters check the text of the post you liked.
4. Press Try a test run to see every like that would go. It unlikes nothing.
5. Press Start and leave the x.com tab visible while it works.

The free version removes up to 50 likes a day, and that is enough to clear a small account over a week or two. Pro removes the daily limit.

Old likes the Likes tab won't show

Your X archive has a file listing every post you have ever liked. With Pro, Xpurge can import the archive and work through that list, opening each liked post directly and unliking it. Things worth knowing

• Unliking removes your like and nothing else. It does not touch the other person's post.
• Likes in the archive carry no date. If you set a date filter, Xpurge keeps them rather than guessing.
• Protecting conversations with named people works on posts but not on likes, because an archived like records only the post, not who it involved.
